Aakanksha – A Special Centre
Aakanksha (A Centre for children with specific needs) a holistic venture of Veda Vyasa DAV Public School, Vikas puri, New Delhi is gaining momentum with each passing year, bringing a ray of hope in the lives of many special children. It was set up in August 1998 under the auspices of the DAV College Managing Committee. The project now has about 100 children and a team of dedicated professionals. Children with mild moderate and severe disabilities between the age of 3 years to 18 years are imparted education here.

Each child is imparted individualized education and vocational training . The individual programmes aim at maximizing each child’s developmental functioning in all aspects including intellectual development, motor development, communication language, independent living skills, play skills, emotional and aesthetic skills etc. Vocational Training is imparted in the following areas:

The school adopts a holistic approach and ensures that every aspect of the students personality is groomed and nurtured to integrate them into the mainstream. Inclusive Education includes giving special amenities, involving them to follow as many academic classes and co-curricular activities as possible including music, art, field trips etc. All teachers in the school are competent to impart individualized teaching and assessment of the students. They are groomed and encouraged to pass Examinations from Open School also.
The students participate in various International, National and State level Competitions and win laurels for the school. They are also a part of the school annual function and activities. The centre endeavours to facilitate skills and competencies that will prepare them to contribute to community and help them make a successful transition to the world of further higher education and work.
